NATIONAL ECUMENICAL FORUM FOR GENDER AND SEXUAL DIVERSITIES (NEFGSD)

The National Ecumenical Forum for Gender and Sexual Diversities (NEFGSD)  was birthed by the then NCCI Commission on Justice, Peace and Creation of the National Council of Churches in India as an expression of faithful commitment to the liberative Gospel of Christ in accompanying the Gender and Sexual Minorities in order to affirm their respect, equality and dignity

The NCCI affirms that gender and sexuality is a divine gift, and hence God intends us to celebrate this divine gift in committed and consensual relationships. It is in such celebrations of our gender and sexuality that we grow into the fullness of our humanity, and experience God in a special way.

The NCCI believes that the Church as ‘Just and Inclusive Community’ is called to become a community without walls to reach out to people who are stigmatized and demonized, and be a listening community to understand their pains, desires, and hopes.

Therefore the NCCI  envisions Church as a space for the ostracized who thirst for understanding, friendship, love, compassion and solidarity, and to join in their struggles to live out their God-given lives.

Therefore, the Working Committee, Executive Committee and the General Body of the National Council of Churches in India deems it urgent to facilitate the Indian Christian Faith Communities and the Society in addressing the issue of Gender and Sexuality responsibly in the contemporary context by approving the NEFGSD as a Standing Forum of the NCCI through  the resolution vide no35/EC/2014. At this juncture of entering the threshold of its next century and as a gesture of radical solidarity with the stigmatized and discriminated in its 100th year of faith Journey, NCCI launches NEFGSD as one of its urgent concerns of the contemporary context it on 6th Nov 2014 at the NCCI Centenary Celebrations in Nagpur.
